Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol is a famous Pop Artist. Warhol experimented in media such as film, sculpture, paint, and silkscreen, but perhaps his greatest work was his invention of himself as an international celebrity and pop culture icon. Warhol is mainly known for his fascination for movie stars which first surfaced in 1962 when he begun working on a portrait of Marilyn Monroe. His most famous works depicted Campbell's soup can. Enlarged, hand-painted or silkscreened, framed, and hung in an art gallery, Warhol succeeded in turning these mundane images into ironic "art". From this Warhol developed his individual style. Instead of working on a signature subject matter, he worked more on a signature style, slowly eliminating the hand-made from the artistic process. Warhol frequently used silk screening, his later drawings were traced from slide projections. Warhol went from being a painter to being a designer of paintings. At the height of his fame as a painter, Warhol had several assistants who produced his silk-screen multiples, following his directions to make different versions and variations. Warhol died in his sleep aged 58.
